Free Up The Prisoners Mixtape 2010 Re-upped

Free Up The Prisoners Mixtape 2010. New roots and one-drop selections. Highlights include Buju tributes from Cocoa Tea & Anthony B, Anthony John's Meditation Spree and Anthony Able's excellent Negril Jail. Pure vibes from Nicky Silk on Free. Riddim include: Caribbean (IrieVibrations), Vineyard Town (Maximum Sound), Boops (JukeBoxx), Jah Jah See Dem A Come (Fireball) and Blessing (Sista).

Buju gets 10 hard ones in Florida but may be out by 2017. The Gargamel seh.. "the days that lie ahead are filled with despair, but I have courage and grace and I'm hopeful, and that is sufficient to carry me through". Jah Cure came up with his most enduring songs when inside. May Buju also get inspiration from his music find the strength to go through. Its not an easy road......

Old Time Something Come Back Again

Old Time Something Come Back Again

That classic old-time rocksteady revival sound hit BIG in 2009! A balance of good-time party vibes and roots & reality tunes here, nowadays artists and veterans. Fresh re-licks of enduring riddims like Rocksteady (Chet), The Whip (Luv Messenger), 007-Shanty Town (Pow Pow), Rudeboy, A Message to You (Supersonic Sounds), Sweetie Come Brush Me (God Bless), Love Line (G-String) and Show Love (Iration). Revisits Cherry Oh Baby (Digital B & Shocking Vibes) from the 90s... Version a fall like rain... Mojo Morgan makes a solid solo contribution on Rude Bwoy while Taxi Records' singer Courtney John takes us way back.....

Rudy Lee - Get Wise (Lion Den LP 1991)

Rudy Lee - Get Wise. I've ripped this hard to find UK digital dancehall vocal LP from 1991.

The debut release on The Lion Den records is a tight & coherent set that definitely deserves a 2nd listen. Gussie Clarke & Dennis Star style rhythm tracks. Mainly reality songs, including a blast against the Poll Tax, with soundbwoy tunes and a couple of lovers selections..

I&I Never Get Weary 2015

I & I Never Get Weary

Its been a few months since I put a fresh mix out as I've been preoccupied with the Kaleidoscope nights, among other things. This one's built around my sets there last weekend when we failed to get a live recording on the night. A multi-era collection, mixing up old with new and nuff between... Starts with rootsy selections before moving onto more upbeat reggae-dancehall vibes later. Plenty version excursions & nuff big tune.
Vocal-deejay-dubwize

Juggling the Bucket Bottom (Fine Style/Freedom Sounds/Irie Ites) with a deadly new cut from Mark Wonder's fine new LP for Nowtime Sound. Penthouse come strong again with updates of  El Shaddai, Culture's Natty Never Get Weary, Miss Wire Waist (Impact/Penthouse) and Horace Andy's Every Tongue Shall Tell featuring a notable return to the mic stand for the Lone Ranger! Digital B does a ruff new relick of the Dub Organizer played here alongside older cuts on Digital B, Upsetter, Impact & Jammys. Other riddim like the Herb Family (More Life), Love Me Forever/Hit The Road Jack (Big Youth/Juggling/Star Trail), Chi Chi Bud (Joe Frazier), Doctors Darling/Night Nurse (Germaican/Island), Just Another Girl (Virgin/Impact) and Kayla Bliss' brand new single Red Hott mix up with the Alton Ellis original Can I Change My Mind (Coxsone/XTM Nation).
We revisit three tunes here that always go down very well in the dance - World Go Round by King Mas, Love Yourself by Mr Vegas and Angola by Jah Bouks. We end up dropping them almost every time we play out.

Continuous mix 97 minutes 75 tracks

Donovan Germain & crew have hit top form once again especially after Exco Levi's astounding Country Man LP for them this year. Penthouse records have the best vibe right now & are thus heavily represented here. For that we make NO APOLOGY. Nuff respect to all.

Rocking Time - Late 70s Revival Vinyl Mix

Rocking Time - Selections from the late-70's

Cool & easy revival mixtape made up of rips from my 7 & 12'' collection. Incorporates various styles of the day, varying from roots to big people revival vibes. Runs vocals into deejay cut into dub version or blazing instrumentals inna true discomix style... Some real timeless classics here like the Phase One classic rockers cut of Waiting in the Park by the Chantells, Owen Gray's cover of When I Need You or Trevor Hartley's combination with U-brown on Selassie-I. Singer Ras Midas with a dread version of the Paragon's rocksteady hit Same Song. Ends with a personal favorite of mine, the sublime Going Is Rough by Jimmy London. 49 tracks.

Glen Brown & Friends - Vintage Revival Selections 1967-72

 Glen Brown & Friends
Ska, Rocksteady & Reggae Selections 1967-72

The best of Glen Brown's early output as a vocalist alongside some initial production efforts. Much of Glen's work focused on harmony duos and groups in the 1960's, following a stint with Sonny Bradshaw's Jazz, though he also did some wicked solo sides. He'd begun to experiment with instrumentals by the 70's. Featuring duos as Glen & Dave (Dave Barker), Hopetown & Glen (Hopeton Lewis), Lloyd & Glen (Lloyd Robinson) Maxie & Glen (Max Romeo) and Glen & Jimmy (an obscure vocalist at the Upsetter camp - anyone know a who dat?), and fine sides from vocal groups Marcus & The Musketeers and The Graduates (Glen Brown, Joe White & Trevor Shields).

Labels: Doctor Bird, Fab, Stag, Treasure Isle, Studio One, GGs, Coxsone, Harry J, Beverleys, Flame, Bra, Upsetter, Darace, Shalimar and Glen Brown's own Pantomine.

Continuous mix. 96 minutes.

Travelling East 1997

 Travelling East 1997
mixtape remaster from the original C90. A great year for roots reggae. Established nu roots stars like Sizzla, Luciano, Capleton and Tony Rebel stand alongside veterans Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs and Everton Blender, while emerging talent like Morgan Heritage, Daweh Congo, Anthony B and Bushman come on strong. A real highlight of that year was the Reggae Day at Finsbury Park, London. A whole heap a artist come down - Beenie Man, Anthony B, Everton Blender, Macka B, Earl 16, U-Roy, Danny Red, Mad Prof. etc. etc... I missed (the ever-disappointing) Lee Perry as he was on at the same time, on another stage from Beenie who was magnificent... no contest who to watch there!

Riddim like Star Trail's Burning Bush & Lift Up Your Head, Heathen (Digital B), War (African Star), Collie Weed, Kette Drum, Slave Master (Jazz Jamaica), Mr Bassie (Xterminator), Revolution, Stepping Outta Babylon (Penthouse), Satta (Digital B & Manatee), Mount Jerusalem (Firehouse Crew) and the awesome Ghetto People Song (Flames).

Continuous mix. Total 158 minutes. Repost..
