Ijahman Bunny Wailer Vaughn Benjamin & I-Wayne: Back 2 Back Part 2

By special request...

Four outstanding artists go toe to toe for this roots & reality session. Brings together two legends from the golden era of Jamaican roots music with two deeply original artists from more recent times as Jah music keeping on moving forward...

Continuous mix: 2 hours

Ijahman Levi emerged in 1976 with the Carry Jah Heavy Load & Jah Is No Secret singles, originally released on UK label Concrete Jungle before getting signed to Island in 1978 to international acclaim. Highly authentic & epic songs, deeply spiritual & personal self productions. Other true pioneers, Vaugh & Ron Benjamin & Midnite blazed onto the scene in the late 1990's with a completely new approach to roots reggae, both musical & lyrical. Vaughn reformed the group in 2015 as Akae Beka after Ron stepped back from touring. Vaughn must be one of reggae's most recorded album artists with literally countless albums of fresh songs (and there is more still to surface). Revered by many as a prophet & visionary its almost as though he was in a rush to get his messages out before his untimely passing at only 50 in 2020. He surely left us much to absorb & ponder over the coming years... I-Wayne made a massive impact when he hit the airwaves in 2004, especially in Jamaica where he continuous to perform to appreciative crowds. Songs like Life Seed, Living In Love & Lava Ground are deeply grounded nu-roots classics. Sadly he is under-recorded with only a handful of singles & 4 LPs & to his name, the last in 2012. Bunny Wailer was of course around right from the start, the mid-60's ska & R&B period, and remained active until only a few years ago - a stellar career stretching well over 50 years. Outspoken, controversial & somewhat reclusive Bunny was a true living legend in every sense.

Who Is Mr. Brown? Wailers Special 1968-72

In a mellow mood - time for some Peter, Bunny & Bob
THE WAILERS 1968-72
The Wailers were incredibly prolific in the years between leaving Studio One and signing for Island. Included here are no fewer than 70 key compositions but this is far from the full story. While of course Bob leads the way Peter & Bunny both also take turns on lead vocals. Productions from Lee Perry, Leslie Kong, Bunny Lee, Allan 'Skill' Cole + the Wailers themselves. Also included are some of Bob & Peter's solo work from that time (JAD, Joe Gibbs, Upsetter). Considered by some to be Bob Marley's best, most creative period. With the exception of two rock steady tracks on Wail 'N Soul 'M 1968 - Hurtin' Inside & Burial - this is a strictly reggae affair so lively up yourselves...

The Wailers & Friends - R&B Soul & Gospel at Studio One

The Wailers & Associates
R&B, Gospel & Soul at Studio One
Rewind Show on rastfm.com 21/06/2019
Selection of Wailers and other related sides recorded mainly from 1964 to 1966. Features both covers of popular US hits and original compositions, all but a very few produced by Coxsone Dodd.

Tracks from the original Wailing Wailers - Bob Marley, Bunny Livingstone, Peter Tosh & Junior Braithwaite (until he left the group in 1964) - and collaborations between Bunny & Peter from when Bob also gone a foriegn and various solo efforts. Rita Anderson & The Soulettes and Marcia Griffiths tracks from Studio One with and without various members of the Wailers, including some duets with crooner Tony Gregory. Also included here are tunes by the late, great Jackie Opel with the Wailers doing backing vocals. One contemporary Judy Mowatt & The Gaylettes soul tune is featured to round things off though this is on Merritone and not a Coxsone Dodd production.

Wailers' gospel recordings on Tabernacle Records marked yet another side of their work with CS Dodd. Rare sides like Satan & the mento style Why Stay So Far From God as The Trying Brothers, a collaboration with Nora Dean & The Soul Sisters as the Soul Harmonisers and a Bob & The Spiritual Sisters song Let The Lord Be Seen In Me are all sublime.

Rita Marley really stands out here for the quality of her performances and her choice of material - an obvious great talent in her own right.

No ska, reggae here. Strictly R&B, Soul, Gospel and Doo Wop selections.

Additional tracks for the Rastfm session :
The City Slickers - Ocean's 11
The Soul Brothers - Here Comes The Mink
Cannon Ball & The Soul Vendors - You Are My Everything
Sugar Belly - Mother's Eyes
Sugar Belly - Danny Boy
Bro. Boothe - I Am Willing To Wait (Tabernacle)
Joy White - Nothing But Love (Tabernacle)
Roland Alphonso & His Alley Cats - Jerk Pork

Continuous mix. Total 102 minutes - new download link -
Thanks again to Mikey in Budapest for many of these great Coxsone rips.
Blessed love.
