STINGRAY ROOTS & CULTURE SESSION

STINGRAY RECORDS SPECIAL
Roots selections from 1994 up to now..
Rewind Show on rastfm.com 23rd March 2019

Champions of Yard-style music in England, STINGRAY RECORDS LONDON has been keeping UK reggae moving forward ever since the McLeod brothers founded the label in 1994. Their West London studio continues to record some of the biggest names in reggae music from Jamaica, the UK & further afield.
For a full bio & info visit their website http://stingrayrecordslondon.com/about

Over 50 tracks here by an impressive array of artists. Strictly culture selections here - we don't venture into the extensive Stingray lovers rock catalogue at all this time: perhaps another show...

Tuff riddim like the I Love King Selassie I, Free Up The Vibes, Rope In, Jah Love, Boops, Hypocrites, Craven Dog, Wolves & Leopards, Cuss Cuss, Peace & Love, Caution, the brutal Bloody City, Tamarind Juice, rootical updates of the Zion Pathway & None A Jah Jah Children plus the amazing Coxsone Dodd inspired Vampire.

This was my last session before I take a short break from broadcasting. We gotta move house this month so I need to focus all of my attention on that for a while (its a pain in the butt though its kind of exciting sametime). Looking forward to getting a new studio together and moving forward. Thanks as ever to all listeners and friends... Siamroots-ites, rastfm family, mixcloud reggae massive, twitter crew...BLESSUP

Frankie ' Dancehall' Paul Tribute - Mr FP

With the sad news of Frankie Paul's pasing this week we were moved to do a last-minute RastFM radio special.

Plans for a different show were flung aside for the moment and the FP selections was quickly gathered in from all sides. its an unplanned, off-the-cuff set. Covers all eras from the early 80s to recent years. Nuff producers, plenty collaborations. Plz excuse some of the 'last departure' mixing.. lol

Irie & Mellow: 90s Reggae Hits

Irie & Mellow 1998. Uptempo collection of crucial reggae hits from the mid-late 90s. Real mixed bag... lovers, roots, dancehall, ragga and mainstream reggae. Some great cover versions. Leads with the Beres Hammond hit from way back in 1982 (I played the tune a lot back then... Wicked!) and then switches straight to 90s selections with Frankie P's I Got The Vibes. Nuff other highlights, like Luciano's Its Me Again Jah & Your World and Mine, Garnett Silk's Ebony & Ivory, The Rod, Goofy & Red Rat's hilarious Big Man Likkle Yout and some great sides by Sylvia Tella.

CD1: Riddim like Let Him Go, Boops, Babylon Cowboy, Seek & You Will Find, Fattie Fattie, Rich & Shine Eye Gal.

CD2: Riddim: No No No, Land of Love, So Much Things to Say, Rainbow Country, Bam Bam, Mr Bassie, Fever Pitch, Sun is Shining & Journalist.
Continuous mix. Total 159 minutes. Repost...

Reggae Festival - Bradford Sunsplash August 21st 2011

Bradford is hosting the 1st Bradford Sunspash this coming Sunday, August 21st, down in the Bradford Urban Gardens, Foster Square, and it promises to be a real session, Its the best thing I've seen happen in the city for ages and they're only asking for a £2- donation on the gate.... It runs from 12 to 8pm.

There is an impressive line up of UK and International artists, headed by lovers rock & reality queen Sylvia Tella (tune like Jamaica Land, Happy Home). The mighty Mafia and Fluxy Band will be there along with Yorkshire lovers rock songstress Adele Harley, Jamaican Hezron Clarke, Birmingham's Skibu and the Global Reggae Band. To top it all off there will be a performance by Italy-based Jamaican roots singer Raymond Wright (Critic Highway, She's Got her Own). I'm especially looking forward to seeing him... Veteran Bradford selector and producer The Rootsman wll be doing a sound system set in the afternoon, don't miss it! There will also be nuff other local bands, selectors and artists in the area. This is gonna be ruff... Anyone in the Yorkshire region - come show your support and make it a roadblock... Late minute addition to the lineup.... UK lovers and reality singer Peter Spence will also be playing, wicked.

The organisers state that ''Bradford Sunsplash™ is a social enterprise comprising a number of creative organisations formed specifically to establish Bradford Sunsplash™ as an annual event on the Bradford calendar; the primary purpose of which is to contribute to the vibrancy of the City of Bradford by bringing our diverse community together to share and celebrate our local talent and creativity''.
