Total Reflection Of The Foundation

Total Reflection Of The Foundation
Revisiting my early non-analogue mixtapes

Excursions on the Brass Gates, Death In The Arena and Do Some Good while Xterminator & Penthouse both revisit the Right Time (Comforter) and Freedom Blues. The Mighty Diamonds join Morgan Heritage, Beenie Man, et al. in voicing one of their best riddims with a new song, Jah Love. One of the most overlooked singers of the period, the former Black Scorpio & Shocking Vibes artist Raymond Wright shines on the powerful Critics Highway - the tune never left my turntable for a while in 1997. Shame we didn't hear much more from him at the time... Other productions from: Roof International, Black Scorpio, Taxi, Shocking Vibes, Fat Eyes, Life, How Yu Fi say Dat, Ffrench, X-Rated, Star Trail, Backyard Movements and Digital B.

Siamrootsical Tribute To Garnett Silk

 Special Tribute To Garnett Silk
RastFM #LRM Show 63 10/11/2018

Tribute to the Silky One, the Arch Angel of reggae music.
Garnett was a one-off. The originality & natrality of his vocals swiftly earned him huge success from 1990 as he teamed up with Anthony "Fire" Rochester & Tony Rebel to write a series of stunning, heavenly songs.
One of my favorite artists ever since that time. Most of his biggest tunes are here together with combinations & cameos by nuff other artists.

His influence on the music going forward cannot be overstated. He Tony Rebel & Cocoa Tea flew the cultural flag throughout the dancehall era & their latter success encouraged a whole new generation of rasta artists, man like Buju, Capleton, Luciano, Sizzla, Morgan Heritage and many others, and brought new opportunities to older generations of roots artists. Together they turned the music scene around. Silk's sudden passing in 1994 was a massive shock as it felt like no sooner he'd come as he was taken away. He became an  instant legend which in turn lent the 'nu roots' movement even greater momentum...

Productions from JAMMYS, DIGITAL B, PENTHOUSE, BLACK SCORPIO, EL PASO, STAR TRAIL, TAXI, TAN-YAH, STEELY & CLEVIE, KARIANG, DERRICK MORGAN, ROOFTOP etc...

Also a short focus on his formative years (from the mid-80s) as deejay Little Bimbo and his initial outings as a singer, including work with Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion. Some killer dubplates from Killamanjaro Sound.

Continuous mix. 2hrs 22

Gargamel Buju Banton Special on the Timeless Reggae Show

Selector King David
Gargamel Buju Banton Special on the Timeless Reggae Show

Diverse selection showcasing the extraordinary talents of the Kingston superstar. 2017 marks an incredible 30 years since his 1st singles for Bunny Lee, Shocking Vibes & Jimmy Riley. A long series of hit was to follow for several producers, notably for Penthouse, Mad House & then his own Gargamel label. Best known for rockstone-voiced hardcore dancehall, the deejay is equally adept at doing roots and vibsy dancehall songs. Nuff wicked collaborations along the way...Buju is inarguably the biggest name in reggae music since Bob Marley & Dennis Brown, not only for the longevity of his career but also the quality of his amazingly prolific output The world looks forward to hearing more from the Gargamel after (hopefully) a speedy release from jail.

Pure vinyl selection.

More thanks & respect to King David
Niceness every time.

Morgan Heritage 20 Year Tribute Mix

Morgan Heritage 20
Celebrating two decades of amazing music from the grammy award winners. Ever since their breakthrough hits for Bobby Digital in 1996 a new single or album release has always been a much anticipated event and when the Heritage roadshow come to town its just pure fyah... Troddin' in their late father Denroy's footsteps Heritage favour an uptempo, rootsy sound and are at their best doing tuff reality songs and inspiring spirituals. The band's grammy this year for the Strictly Roots album was long overdue and is seen as a 'lifetime achievement'' award. Its great to see them finally get the recognition they've so long deserved.

With such an extensive and essential back catalogue to choose from and too little space here, focus is more on singles and collaborations than on album tracks. Productions from, among others, Digital B, Jammys, Xterminator,  Flava Mcgregor, Kickin, Penthouse,  Massive B, Fat Eyes, Richie Stephens, Oneness, Jukeboxx, Don Carleon, Denroy Morgan and Heritage's own 71 Records, HMG and GTBC (Good To Be Conscious). Alternative versions by Cocoa Tea, Chezidek, Sizzla, Shabba Ranks, I-Wayne, Capleton, Anthony B, King Kong, Richie Spice, Beenie Man, Ras Shiloh, Bushman, the Marleys and Military Man.

Continuous mix. Two hours. 66 tracks.

RIP Philip Burrell... Long Live Xterminator!

 RIP PHILIP FATIS BURRELL

Legendary Xterminator producer Philip Burrell died at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Kingston on Saturday evening, Dec. 3rd 2011. He suffered a stroke two weeks ago and had been hospitalized ever since. He finally fell into a coma and on Saturday morning before passing away later in the day. He was 57.

The Kingston born (and UK raised) producer and promoter cut his 1st track with Sugar Minott in 1984 before going on to establish his Kings & Lions and Vena labels, recording hits with a range of singers and deejay through the late eighties and gaining a reputation for promoting unknown local youths. Greater success came later with Xterminator (Exterminator) Records, set up in 1989, providing strings of hits and ground breaking releases throughout the 1990s. The Firehouse Crew and Sly Dunbar provided many of the riddims, teaming up with veteran engineer Soldgie to add fire to the new roots revolution. This was heavy, reverb-soaked roots reggae at its best with a big UK steppas influence (though they were equally at home with lovers and dancehall). Cocoa Tea, Beres Hammond, Luciano, Sizzla, Jah Cure, Fred Locks, Gregory Isaacs, Mikey General, Prince Malachi, Spanner Banner, Frankie Paul, Charlie Chaplin, Ini Kamoze, Sanchez, Chezidek and Turbulence all revived or started their careers and put out accomplished LPs/sides with him. Luciano's Where There Is Life and Messenger sets are as sublime as Sizzla's Praise Ye Jah and Cocoa Tea's Tune In were stunning. Fatis also deserves recognition for releasing a number of excellent dub albums, something that had not been done much in JA for years.

Fatis Burrell had a resonant and  lasting impact on the reggae scene, influencing a whole generation of new producers in JA and Europe into the new millennium, and his name must ha fi rank alongside the greats: Man like Junjo Lawes, Sugar Minott, Glen Brown, Niney, Gussie Clarke, Donovan Germain, Bobby Digital, Bulwackies and even Bunny Lee... His legacy is continued by Karim Burrell and the new look Xterminator Records, Kush-I, Jesse Royal, et al., putting out some irie new rhythms. Check them in 2012...
