Point Blank from the Observer Station - Niney productions 1970-86

Point Blank from the Observer Station - Niney productions. Double helping of ital Niney the Observer selections non-stop inna mixtape style. Over 150 cuts dating from the early 70s into the nid-80s. One of the truly great producers/arrangers of early roots reggae (and a notable songwriter/vocalist), Holness was responsible for some some of the best work by artists like Max Romeo, Big Youth, Freddie McGregor. Don Carlos, The Heptones, Dillinger and especially Dennis Brown who never bettered the work he did with the producer - songs like Cassandra, Africa, Ride On, Conqueror, Tenement Yard, Wolves & Leopards, Tribulation, So Long Rastafari, Westbound Train, Love & Hate, Here I Come Again, My Time..... Could have easily done a stand-alone D. Brown/Observer mix. Other big riddim include the Right Time, Blood & Fire, Rasta No Pickpocket, Satta, Slave Master, Rock On, Country Living, Rasta Bandwagon, Reggaematic, Rastaman Camp, Cassava Piece and the rolling steppers of Everyday Life among many others... Features three early Michael Rose songs including the original Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. He sounds like the Crown Prince on Freedom.

Rocking backing tracks from the Observers (actually Soul Syndicate & Revolutionaries), killer dubs mixes by King Tubby and Niney himself. No attempt has been made to keep any chronological order - the selections here just follow a vibe.
From the Observer station.... a love wi a deal with...

Siamrootsical Roots & Culture Mix 2015

Siamrootsical Roots & Culture Mix 2015

Fifth annual end-of-year new roots collection, bringing together some of the seasons bigger conscious releases. Strictly positive, ital roots selections a play... Exco levi broke new ground with his brilliant Country Man LP for Penthouse, as well as voicing  high energy sides for several producers, while musical obeah man King Mas has really turned up the heat with a series of devastating reality songs - looking forward to a new LP from him.  Micah Shemaiah also made waves with his deeply rooted Original Dread set for Decadent Records. All three artists feature heavily here. Protoje hit big with the excellent Ancient Future. Producers @Jamrockvybz put out some fine roots tunes in 2015 with Kazam Davis, Luciano, kIing ITal and Chezidek - check Marijuana: Real Green Gold.- the real Ganjaella... @nowtimesound created a finely textured modern roots soundtrack for Mark Wonder's Scrolls Of The Levite LP, for me the production of the year

Longtime riddim mix it with some wicked new originals. Will Tee's rocking remake of the Shank I Sheck runs with the Dub Specialist cut (Studio 1) beautifully. The Green Lion Crew's Ganja Morning is a relick of Desi Roots' Weed Fields. Disobey (Rebelmadiaq) is reminiscent of the Promise Land. Junior Gong reissued the On The Corner with new vocals from Chronixx, Jesse Royal & Iba Mahr. The Gunshot is back with fresh cuts by Overstand & Flava McGregor. Penhouse revisit two classics - Since I Throw The Comb Away and El Shaddai. More excursions on the  Hungry Dayz (LTL), The Empire (Riddim Wize), Freedom Fire (Independent Works) and the Go with Jah (Taitu)

Continuous mix 79 minutes

Phil Pratt All Stars - Reggae Showcase Super 1969-76

 Phil Pratt All Star Showcase
The best of Sunshot. Comprehensive selection of killers on the legendary Sunshot and Channan Jah labels. Draws on the influential producer's output during the early reggae era, the transition from melodious rocksteady to the more militant roots music. With the Sunshot Band (the future Revolutionaries) and Bobby Kalphat providing cutting edge rhythm tracks Pratt was able to call on the leading vocalists and deejays of the day but, like close contemporaries Lee Perry, Glen Brown, Sidney Crooks, Bunny Lee and Niney, wasn't afraid to experiment and give opportunity to lesser known artists. His sound is notable for enduring vocal quality over choppy, solid roots riddim. Of interest here is the emergence of  of the 'flying cymbals' drum sound. Good balance of singers, deejays and version. Great riddim like Strange Things, What About the Half, Black Magic Woman, Envious, Talk About Love, Artibella, Heart is Gone, Going the Wrong Way, etc...

Glen Brown - Godson Mixtape 1972-76

Glen Brown - Godson Mixtape 1972-76.
Exhaustive compilation of early 70s classics from the Rhythm Master, Glen Brown... Incredible leftfield & original proto-roots reggae. Working on a total shoestring, he used relatively few rhythm tracks, begging a likkle studio time whenever possible with amazing results. Excursions on the tuffest blueprint roots riddims: Slaving, Merry Up, Dirty Harry, Boat To Progress, Midnight In Moscow, One One Cocoa, Father's Call, Glen Brown At The Crossroads, Pantomine Rock, 2Wedden Skank, and more... Pantomine, Dwyer, Shalimar and High School International labels.
Vocal - deejay - dubwise

Turbulence - Higher Trod Mixtape 1998-2007

The first of two Turbulence roots and reality mixtapes, charting the gifted singjay's career from 1998 to 2007. Emerging out of Phillip Burrell's Xterminator camp circia 1997-98 in the wake of Sizzla and Luciano, et al, Turbulence suffered under-exposure right into 2004, despite the release of several albums. Breakthrough was at last achieved with the -hit Notorious. Hits like Got The Love (with Sasha) & X-Girlfriend followed in 2006-07.

New roots and one drop riddims predominate here with forays onto the dancehall also. Nuff lyrics. Collaborating artists include: The Higher Trod Family, Lutan Fyah, LMS, Sasha, Anthony B, Bushman, Luciano, Chezidek, Tafari, Perfect and Digital Ancient. Features a lNotorious megamix. Label like Xterminator, Silly Walks, Tad's, etc etc.

KALEIDOSCOPE SESSIONS - Autumn 2015

KALEIDOSCOPE LIVE SESSIONS - August-October 2015. The vibes have been growing this fall as word's gotten out about our monthly dances @ New Beehive Bradford. Host selectors Spaceport7, Selector Big Bri & Paul Rootsical were aided & abetted by JarrettMC & Stevie Metro along with MC Urban Vox outta Leeds who helped lift the vybz by several notches. Longtime Inspirational Sounds chanter Ras Dan-I pass through also, bringing some irie Papa Briggy style chat to the area. Our thanks & MAXIMUM RESPECT go out to you all... boom.

The Paul Rootsical section is  from 3 nights. Opens with some rootsical favourites old & new then moves into pure 80s-90s digital dancehall with vybzing from Dan-I. The last set is a more typical SiamRootsical riddim old-and-new ting, with versatile mic commandant Urban Vox riding the versions in fine style.

Stevie Metro & JarrettMC mashed it up on the night alongside deejay Urban Vox. Stevie warm up with some wicked roots selection before blazing up with some dancehall scorchers. Probably the set of the night! Nuff respect man..
