Militant Roots (Disco Mix Style) 4

Friday Night Rewind on hearticalfm.com
Another selection of mid-late 70s roots reggae in a discomix style. I pulled out some crucial Bunny Lee productions for a change led by Horace Andy & Johnny Clarke. Also some classic African Brothers & Jacob Miller.

Continuous mix 2 hours

Striker Lee riddim like the Don't Try To Use Me, This World, Love In My Heart & Natural Fact. Also the No One Can Tell I About Jah (Cry Tuff), I'm A Levi (Tree Roots), Conscious Man (Keyman), Roman Soldiers (Top Ranking), Take 5 (Fatman). A couple of my best 12''s - both sides of What Kind of World by Junior Byles on Observer & Revelation's heavenly With You Boy. Brent Dowe's Righteous Works on Freedom Sounds is stunning.

Top Ranking Roots From Tommy Cowan's Talent Corporation

Top Ranking Roots
Tommy Cowan's Talent Corporation

Heartical 3-part 70s roots mix. Brings together sides from producer, manager & promoter Tommy Cowan's Talent Corporation family of record labels - Arab, Starapple, Talent77, Talent & Sweet City. Cowan also collaborated with the Lewis brothers, releasing much of his catalogue on their Top Ranking imprint.

Cowan produced for reggae groups like Israel Vibration, Zap Pow, the Cordells & the Cimarons as well as solo artists like Winston McAnuff, Eric Donaldson, Devon Irons, Horace Andy, David Jahson, Ras Michael, Augustus Pablo. Earl Zero, Trinity & most frequently Jacob Miller & Inner Circle, but also many classic hard-to-find songs by much lesser known artists like the Blue Bells, Bandolos, Beach Commers, Ras Keatus I, Two Rasta Man, Little Madness & many more... . TC also released tunes by a number of other producers. Recordings mostly from Tuff Gong, Channel One, Black Ark, Harry J's & Dynamic. Kiler dubs by the Fatman Riddim Section, Roots Rockers & Talent Crew.

Upful roots & culture selection. Vocal, dubwize & occasional deejay cuts. Many essential but obscure gems line up alongside better known roots anthems. Dates roughly to 1975-1980. Over 150 track samples over the  three volumes.
Continuous mix. 3X 90 minutes.

Augustus Pablo & The Rockers All-Stars - Hungry Town Uprising

Augustus Pablo & The Rockers All-Stars - Hungry Town Uprising. Essential Rockers International mixtape comprising Augustus Pablo productions and collaborations (some rare) between 1974 and 1988. Fully extended cuts with dubs, versions and deejay cuts. Like Sugar Minott at Black Roots, Pablo nurtured young talent, notably Junior Reid, Hugh Mundell, Ricky Grant, Icho Candy, Earl 16, Yami Bolo & White Mice. His 'far east' sound also drew in many bigger name artists, particularly in the 1970's.More killer rhythms: Love Won't Come Easy, Girl Name Pat, Cassava Piece, Mr Bassie, Artibella, Who Say Jah No Dread, Rockabye Woman, Satta. and the glorious Arise & Shine by Hugh Mundell. More cuts on the False Rasta-Hungry Town Skank. Jacob Miller revisits his Keep On Knocking hit, this time on the Hypocrites alongside U-Brown. Killer Miller's supremely positive Each One Teach One features the deejay cut from Jah Levi (Hugh Mundell).
Continuous mix. 77 minutes.

Augustus Pablo all-Stars - Rockers International University Mix

The classic Japanese cassette mixtape, Rockers International University Mix...
Pablo has always had a MASSIVE following there amongst JAPAN SOUNDMEN & reggae fans. Recreating the superb Japanese C90 mixtape I bought in Nagasaki 1994 - Rockers University Mix. All the tunes off that mix are here plus much more. Deep meditations...

Mighty riddim like the El Rockers, King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown, Answer, Black Gun aka Keep On Knocking, Drum Song, Run Revolution A Come, False Rasta aka Hungry Town Skank and Away With Your Fussing & Fighting. They just keep on coming through the door....  Junior Delgado's crucial Raggamuffin Year and Yami Bolo's cut of Door Peep Shall Not Enter are exceptional as are Horace Andy's Youths Of Today and Earl Sixteen's Changing World. Can't Keep A Good Man Down by The Immortals is one of my favorite ever roots tunes

Year 2 Year 12'' Discomix Collection 1987

Year 2 Year 12'' Discomixes 1987. This series came out as a curious collection of mainly back-releases in '87 and precious little was fresh. No Jammys, no Music Works, no Techniques here... Its an eclectic mix of styles and periods, mixing up roots from the late 1970s, pre-digital dancehall and contemporary UK productions. Good listening, but hardly cutting edge at the time. Productions from Augustus Pablo, Tommy Cowan, Augustus Clarke, Willie Lindo and Kangal. 1987 contrasts sharply with the other Year-2-Year volumes in that it dips into the archives (no Jammys, no Tubbys here). Features the Winnie Mandela hit tune by Carlene Davis, interesting in retrospect...

Continuous mix. Short and sweet at 33 minutes. Repost..
