The Heptones Keep On Pushing - Tribute

THE HEPTONES - KEEP ON PUSHING
Special tribute on the Rewind Show
www.rastfm.com 22nd Feb 2019

One of the most influencial vocal groups ever, Leroy Sibbles, Earl Morgan and Barry Llewellyn, came together in 1965. They went on to voice a long string of classic hits for Coxsone Dodd up to 1971 in rocksteady and then reggae styles. The 1st half of this mix is pure Studio One.

The trio went on to record essential LPs with, among others, Harry J's, Lee Perry, Niney the Observer & Joe Gibbs right through the 70s. Leroy Sibbles eventually left the Heptones to pursue a solo career in 1978 so roots man Naggo Morris was invited to step up & join the group. Their last really big hit came in 1980 - Mr Ska Bean'a with Alton Ellis - a massive tune!

Continuous mix. 2 hours

Time Is Getting Hard - Studio One 1967-75

Time Is Getting Hard
Studio One Reality Selections
Collection of conscious early roots reggae & rock steady from the Coxsone archives.  Big tunes from Lloyd Charmers, Bob Andy, Ernest Wilson, Slim Smith,  The Hamlins, Cables, Ethiopians, Bassies, Viceroys, Classics (Wailing Souls) and Coxsone's leading vocal group after the Wailers' departure - the Heptones - as well as a whole heap a rare 7'' gems from more obscure artists.

Excursions on some classic original riddim like the Rougher Yet, Things A Come To Bump (Love Bump), Fire Coal Man, Cuss Cuss, What Kind Of World and Roy Richards' Freedom Blues. Although most of the tunes were recorded between 1967 & 1972 it is almost inevitable that some versions, remixes & voice overs from a slightly outside that date zone made their way into the mix.

Continuous mix. 90 mins.

Thanks again to Brixton Rat for lending the I so many vital Studio 1 rips...
Peace and love iyah.

The Best of Hubert Lee Mix 1972-85

The Very Best of Hubert Lee Siamrootsical vinyl rips mix.
I bought a large number of Hubert Lee records as part of several reggae job lots a few years ago and soon noticed that they had real quality and charm. I'd previously never heard of this singer, initially confusing him with Hubert Porter of mento fame. Hubert Lee was best known in the 1970s with some excellent tunes, first with Prince Tony, Randys, Bob Mack & Chin's and later with Coxsone Dodd at Studio 1. His vocal style has deep soul and country influences and he sounds at times like a Jamaican Buddy Holly. Good mix of covers and original tracks here with a smattering of reality songs. Perhaps his most enduring hit was Pressure & Slide (Mr DC) though other classics like High School Dance, Hey Little Girl & Pen In Hand are perhaps even better. Covers like Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue,  the Mamas & Papas' Dedicated to the One I Love, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, Folk Brothers' Oh Carolina Al Green's God Is Standing By and plenty more... Cameos from Jah Woosh, Dennis Alcapone, Jim Brown (Jim Nastic), The Mighty Hombres, Rhuben Alexander & Lester Stirling and two killer collaborations with the Clarendonians.

Continuous mix. 82 minutes.
Thanks to Mikey for most of the Studio 1 & Bongo Man rips.
Keep the revival foundation selection playing inna Hungary lion. Nuff respect.
