Reel Up Rock Steady

Reel Up Reel Up!
More golden rocksteady hits
Tracks date from the 1966-68 heyday apart from a few later deejay versions on Treasure Isle by U-Roy, Dennis Alcapone & Lizzy (1969-72)
Wake the town and tell the people...

Continuous mix 2 hours

Duke Reid's Treasure Isle leads the way production-wise, along with Coxsone Dodd's Studio One, Bunny Lee, Prince Buster, Gay Feet, Joe Gibbs' Amalgamated, Derrick Morgan's Hop, Derrick Harriott, Byron Lee (WIRL), Merritone and some early self-releases from the Wailers on the Wail N Soul M label.

A few real rarities like Yours Until Tomorrow credited to the Minstrels but actually the Martinies. Very crucial harmonica driven 45 on Rio by Winston Richards (aka Winston Grennan) called Don't Give Up/Studio Blitz. Also a Frank Brown & The Consumates 7'' The More They Get/Do It Now produced by Derrick Morgan.

Vintage Lovers Rock Hits - Wild Flower

Vintage lovers rock hits on the Wild Flower label

Collection of smooth 7'' 45s released by Paul & Richard Khouri in the 1970s. Classic lovers tunes line up with some comic and light-hearted slackness from the likes of Pluto Shervington, Lord Laro, Lovindeer & Charlie Ace, as well as a couple of reggae gospel songs. Big-name Wild Flower regulars like Ken Boothe, Ernie Smith, Marcia Griffiths, Boris Gardiner, Pluto and Lloyd Charmers are joined by a host of lesser known artists. Productions from Lloyd Charmers, Derrick Harriott, Lee Perry and Donkey as well as the Khouri brothers' own works.

A large number of Wild Flower 7s came into my possession a few years ago as well as a couple of irie LPs which i duly ripped so this anthology is built around them. Some of these selections were also released in the UK on the Trojan/Horse imprints. A Wild Flower roots selection soon come...

Continuous mix. 100 minutes.

Phil Pratt All Stars - Reggae Showcase Super 1969-76

 Phil Pratt All Star Showcase
The best of Sunshot. Comprehensive selection of killers on the legendary Sunshot and Channan Jah labels. Draws on the influential producer's output during the early reggae era, the transition from melodious rocksteady to the more militant roots music. With the Sunshot Band (the future Revolutionaries) and Bobby Kalphat providing cutting edge rhythm tracks Pratt was able to call on the leading vocalists and deejays of the day but, like close contemporaries Lee Perry, Glen Brown, Sidney Crooks, Bunny Lee and Niney, wasn't afraid to experiment and give opportunity to lesser known artists. His sound is notable for enduring vocal quality over choppy, solid roots riddim. Of interest here is the emergence of  of the 'flying cymbals' drum sound. Good balance of singers, deejays and version. Great riddim like Strange Things, What About the Half, Black Magic Woman, Envious, Talk About Love, Artibella, Heart is Gone, Going the Wrong Way, etc...

Continuous mix. Total 280 minutes. Repost...
