Respect & Manners - New Roots Mixtape 2013

Respect & Manners Mixtape 2013

Conscious selection of new roots songs and excursions on some rocking rhythms, old and new. Call for unity and better overstanding everywhere in this time. In the words of Jah Mali, ''live and let live''

Starring three classic Burning Spear rhythms; He Prayed (Sajay), Creation Rebel (Maximum Sound) & Live Good (Mafia & Fluxy). The Ffrenchie relick of the Creation Rebel (2008) is based on Bunny Lee's mid-70s version (Johnny Clarke) and features a cool Johnny Clarke/Fantan Mojah combination and a crucial U-Roy/Chedidek cut as well as an original Bunny Lee dub version.

Next Generation Family's rootsy Raspect riddim is just brilliant and leads with Lutan Fyah's superb Respect & Manners. Another I-light is Reggaeland's Cultura featuring deejay legend Jah Thomas and Singer Jah's Prayer 2 Di Most High which is simply sublime. The Redeemer (OneNess) harks back to the good ole days of rub-a-dub dances with Mark Wonder. Jesse Royal delivers a militant cut to the I'klek'tic (XTM Nation). Great to hear Queen Omega once more. She really shines on the Passover (Jahlight). Another Maximum Sound rhythm, Leggo Di, has a real early reggae sound. Deejay Captain Sinbad celebrates Jamaica 50 here while singer-deejay Ras Demo (aka Demolition Man) come with a top reality tune. Glen Washington & Mikey Spice contribute two outstanding conscious songs on Cyclone's Da Drama. Joe Frasier's World Peace is similar to the Full Up and features one of Sanchez's best cultural songs. Together, taken from the latest Ras Batch LP Know Thyself, is an illustrious call for unity. A heartical U-Roy combination with Harrison Stafford (of Groundation) reminds me of vintage Eric Donaldson and is from the new U-Roy LP Pray Fi Di People

Siamrootsical Roots & Culture Mix 2012

SiamRootsical Roots N Culture Mix 2012

Finally putting this one out, I've been too busy gardening this summer. Reggae music again! Riddim like Life After Lifetime (Larger Than Life), King's Army (Dimmie Joe), Island Breeze (Madd Spider), Real Reggae (Payday), Hold U Medz (In the Streetz), Murderer (No Doubt/Madhouse), Beat Down Babylon (Jukeboxx), XTM Nation's hot remake of Wings With Me and Twilight Circus' superb Binghi riddim from 2008 featuring nyah drumming from Skully. Nuff version. Cultural deejay Keke-I bigs up all horticulturalists on Farmer Man while blazing fyah like Sizzla on the stunning Why Do We Fight. Barrington Levy & Gyptian team up for another great remake of Murderer (No Doubt). Buju Banton ripped up a storm on Pedal Pusher... gwaan Buju! While various members of the band continue to release solo projects, Morgan Heritage made a welcome comeback with The Return before beginning their European tour. Reggae music lives!
