Negus Roots Special Part 2 - Fire House

Negus Roots Special Part 2 + Fire House Selections

The second half of the NEGUS ROOTS story. The Palmer brothers, Michael & Robert 'Flako' originate from Waterhouse but founded Negus Roots in 1980 after a move to the UK. They put out a long series of crucial 12'' and several LPs until the outfit shut down at the end of 1985. Negus Roots came back to life in 2005 when Flako Palmer voiced Neville Brown & Earl 16 for the Kilamanjaro 12''. A dubwize collaboration with Gussie P followed in 2007 - Firehouse Dub.

Begins with early 80s sides from Don Carlos, Lacksley Catell & Junior Reid and some earlier FIRE HOUSE roots 7s before moving on to rub-a-dub & lovers selections and then outright pre-digital dancehall vbes. Nuff dub version. Horace Martin and Neville Brown became the label's biggest stars once Don Carlos & Junior Reid had moved on and Lacksley Castell died. Neville Brown's Haul & Pull Up was a major and memorable hit into the mid-80s. Horace Martin is a highly talented but somehow much underrated singer well represented here. Deejays Johnny Ringo, General Stout & Papa Tullo deh ya. The mix winds down with a few laid back rootsy tunes at the end.

This mix includes several great sides by EDDIE (EDI) FITZROY who passed away this March. He was a roots legend who kept the conscious flame burning through the 1990s in particular. So tribute to the man here... his music will long live on....

Continuous mix. 2hrs 33.
